Clinical Nurse Advisor

Job Scope:

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring service excellence through the handling of complaints and incidents in accordance with the Pulse and ICS Incidents and Complaints procedure and framework requirements. They will be ensuring all complaints and incidents are dealt with in a timely, confidential and professional manner. The post holder must have current NMC registration and recent clinical experience as the job role requires the investigation of clinical complaints and incidents. Clinical Nurse Advisor will be responsible for carrying out the clinical competency based interview on the Nurses and Healthcare Assistants. They will also be responsible for carrying out annual appraisals, 6-month reviews and Revalidation support. Provide support and advice to the business teams as required.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Taking responsibility for following complaints and incidents through the process from initial notification to closure.
  • Running necessary Revalidation workshops for Pulse Nurses, Midwives and and internal confirmers
  • Accurately logging and updating incidents and complaints on Datix
  • Effectively managing Datix and following up with the appropriate Business Managers as required to ensure this is regularly updated.
  • Liaising and providing guidance to the Business Managers in investigating non clinical complaints.
  • Handling complex incidents and complaints (Moderate or above) with the support of the Clinical Governance team and the Recruitment and Compliance Manager.
  • Communicating any moderate or above incidents or complaints with the Clinical Lead
  • Preparing necessary complaints  and incident information prior to attending Clinical Governance Meetings
  • Responding to clients in a timely and professional manner upon receiving details of a complaint or incident.
  • Informing the Nurse, Midwife or HCA verbally and in writing that we have received a complaint or incident involving them.
  • Conducting investigation meetings with the associates when required and reviewing statements submitted by the associate that will then be forwarded onto the client.
  • Identify and co ordinate any additional training requirements.
  • Analysing complaints and incident reports identifying key issues raised and assess level of risk.
  • Following analysis of risk, making associates unavailable for work whilst the complaint/incident is being investigated.
  • Ensure all complaint and incident responses are sent within a timely manner to the client and associate
  • Ensuring communication with the associate and client is clear and both parties are kept informed and updated throughout the whole process.
  • Assist with planning and process implementation in relation to complaint and incidents.
  • Involvement with disciplinary hearings of associates in accordance with the ICS disciplinary process with the support of HR, the Clinical Lead
  • Informing the Clinical Lead and Clinical Governance Director immediately of any Safeguarding issues.
  • Attending Safeguarding meetings and liaising with LADO
  • Management of complaints and incident administrators.
  • Review HireVue clinical competency based interviewing, and assessing the Nurse and HCA’s clinical skills in accordance with the framework requirements
  • Review HireVue annual clinical appraisals and 6 monthly reviews on Nurses and Healthcare Assistants
  • Carrying out the appropriate searches accurately on iqx to identify those Nurses, Midwives and Healthcare Assistants who are due to have 6 month reviews completed
  • Accurately inputting information into iqx
  • Support the on-going focus on the achievement of team targets
  • Developing and maintaining professional relationships with associates
  • Providing a support function to the Recruitment and Compliance Coordinators
  • Providing clinical support and nursing knowledge with other non nursing colleagues in the office
  • To provide excellent customer service to associates and colleagues within the office
  • Assisting with the development of the Revalidation process for Pulse Nurses and Midwives
  • To become knowledgeable in all revalidation requirements to support and deal with any queries from Pulse Nurses and Midwives
  • Completing revalidation of our Nurses
  • Communicating with our Nurses and Midwives regarding any queries they may have in relation our online appraisal and revalidation process
